Magic the Gathering Unveils Exciting Announcements at GenCon 2023

GenCon 2023, one of the most anticipated events for tabletop gaming enthusiasts, has once again delivered a treasure trove of exciting announcements for Magic the Gathering (MTG) fans. The sheer amount of announcements this year are sure to keep players and collectors on the edge of their seats. Let's dive into the thrilling reveals that took the MTG community by storm.

New Expansion Set: "Murders at Karlov Manor"

One of the highlights of this year's GenCon was the announcement of the upcoming expansion set, "Murders at Karlov Manor." Wizards of the Coast teased players with a glimpse of the intriguing storyline that will be featured in this set. "Murders at Karlov Manor" promises to take players on a journey through mystical realms and forgotten planes, introducing new mechanics and a fresh array of cards to shake up the game's meta.

Assassin’s Creed, Final Fantasy, Fallout and many more!

In a move to enhance the collectability and to keep the game engaging for veterans and new players alike, Wizards of the Coast revealed their plans to introduce several new universes to the Magic the Gathering game. These franchises, designed to introduce players to new themes and amazing artwork, will become available over the next few years. Players can expect to find Fallout Commander Decks, similar to Dr Who, as well as Final Fantasy having its own Universes Beyond set similar to the most recent Lord of the Rings set.

Modern Horizons 3 and Jurassic Park are coming soon!

Modern Horizons 3 is set to be released in 2024, and will feature many reprints and some brand new cards that will have collectors scrambling. With teased images of the Eldrazi, Emrakul, the question remains on which version we will get in this reprint set! Similar to Godzilla or Transformers of the past, we will also be seeing Jurassic Park entering the “The Lost Caverns of Ixalan” set with a mighty roar. These cards will function the same as existing cards, but with an incredible new artwork to show off these amazing creatures.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction and Bloomburrow

The Wild West is finally on its way for the first time with the “Outlaws of Thunder Junction” set! This will be the first time the Wild West aesthetic has been used in a Magic the Gathering set and will be highly anticipated for sure, promising to bring along “the most notorious villains”. Alongside this, we also had the announcement of “Bloomburrow”, a universe without humans where the fight for survival is also active. We expect many vicious and cute creatures to be populating decks very soon.

Duskmourn: House of Horror

While a little late, we also saw the announced “Duskmourn: House of Horror” set, bringing a very gothic and dark tone to Magic the Gathering once again. In a similar vein to the “Stranger Things” set released not too long ago, we expect to see this set show off some incredible and disgusting artwork.
